15 best alternatives to KickassTorrents [2020 list]

best kickasstorrents alternatives 2020

The story of KickassTorrents is probably one of the most known ones, even among those who don’t normally torrent download their content. Not only because of the site’s popularity, but the fashion in which it went down.

For those who need a quick refresher, here’s a reminder of what happened. Basically, in 2016, the US government institutions took down the website and arrested its owner on various piracy charges.

Before all of this happened, KickassTorrents was a haven to download the latest TV shows, movies, music, e-books and software, all without spending a single penny. Much of this material was, of course, copyrighted.

Even though many users attempted to restore the website back on the internet, it seems that even its mirror links were taken down after the raid.

In this article I want to list my choice for the best alternatives to KickassTorrents to use in 2020. Just for the record, I’m not promoting nor encouraging the download of copyrighted material, torrent that kind of stuff at your own risk.

The reason I made this list was because many users (including me) missed the user-friendliness of “KickassTorrents” and the ability to find the stuff and the ability to download stuff at high speeds.

Anyway, here’s my take on the best KickassTorrents alternatives currently available on the net.

Before proceeding, should you be worried by the act of torrenting?

No, not at all. Torrenting by itself is a completely legal practice, as long as you’re downloading stuff that is free to share and not copyrighted. It should be noted, however, that your PC’s identity is visible and may be a monitoring target for certain authorities.

Sounds scary? Well, there’s a simple solution

In order to protect yourself while torrenting whatever you want to torrent, you must use a VPN. VPNs also known as Virtual Private Networks will help you hide your identity from interested parties.

So, if you don’t want to receive copyright violations or messages from certain government entities, best to retain your freedom and anonimity with the help of a VPN.

It’s a bit different in the sense that it doesn’t simply offer torrents, but it acts as a client for torrent downloads as well.

Let’s say your friend creates a torrent for a movie he has, you can download it with the help of Vuze and be much more secure while doing so than with other clients. Not only is it a simple downloading tool, it’s a complete torrent management platform.

kodi Kodi is a unique case on this list since it’s focus isn’t torrent downloads as such, instead you get to stream various media with the help of your torrent client.

Want to see movies, documentaries, TV shows or other media for free, without waiting for downloads? Kodi is the best option on this list.

Don’t want to use an alternative? Consider KickassTorrents proxies

I’ve already talked about proxies for KAT in a separate article. Since the original website went down, a clone website emerged almost immediately with the initiative of a group of former moderators. Authorities took notice, and blocked even that.

Good news is that there’s multiple proxies (domains) that you can still use to reach KickassTorrents in 2020. Even though these domains are being shut down from time to time, new ones emerge, leaving a chance to access the content library for users regardless.

All you need to do on your side is pick up a good VPN to protect yourself from peeping eyes.

Here’s my list of KickassTorrent proxies working in 2020.

So, what actually happened with the original KickassTorrents website?

As I’ve mentioned, and you already know as you’re here, reading this article is that the original KickassTorrents website is no longer present. So, why was it taken down in the first place?

Well, when talking about the site, it’s very important to talk about its owner Artem Vaulin. The guy was charged with multiple accounts of copyright infringement as well as being part of a money laundering scheme.

As the Homeland security department has stated, the whole operation to take down the site was done undercover. The main thing that raised suspicions to the authorities was the fact that KickassTorrents, at its peak, managed to generate more than 15 million dollars from ads each year.

The agents managed to trace back Artem’s IP adress and his location (Poland). Arrested in the country, he was later, given to the authorities in the US for trial.

So yeah, a pretty huge story.

All in all,

I’ve talked about and listed my top choices for KickassTorrents alternatives. Each of them provides unique downloads to the user and I’m sure people will find whatever torrents they are looking for.

If you don’t want to use an alternative, there’s proxies to reach the clone site as well.
